About Us

Welcome, thank you for your interest in our Shotokan Karate classes.

Falkirk Shotokan Karate Centres was established in 2009 by Instructor Richard Steen, a qualified registered Instructor with the Japan Karate Shotorenmei Scotland and the Scottish Karate Governing Body, with over 25 years experience in the Martial Arts.

Our classes are based in and around the Falkirk District of Central Scotland, with an aim of introducing, promoting and advancing the Martial Art and Sport of JKS Shotokan Karate to children and adults alike, throughout the region.

We are affiliated to the Japan Karate Shotorenmei (JKS) Scotland, the largest and most successful Traditional Karate Association in Scotland, with direct affiliation to JKS Headquarters in Japan.

Japan Karate Shotorenmei is an international organisation that teaches authentic Shotokan Karate from Japan, as taught by the late Master Tetsuhiko Asai, 10th Dan (1935-2006).

All instructors are fully insured and certified coaches through the Scottish Karate Governing Body (SKGB), the only recognized governing body for Karate in Scotland, and are Enhanced Disclosure Scotland Certified.

JKS Scotland maintains a high standard of practice and tuition throughout the association. We hold regular courses and seminars with international instructors and competitors from the Karate world and encourage all students to participate in these events whenever possible.

JKS Scotland also has a strong competition squad in Kata (Pre-arranged Forms) and Kumite (Free Sparring). With many title winners within our association ranging from club level wins all the way up to World title winners.

Falkirk Shotokan Karate Centres hold classes for both children and adults, with the minimum age of enrolment being 6 years old. You do not have to be fit to start as long as you are in good health your fitness and skill level will gradually increase through time and training.

Falkirk Shotokan Karate Centres welcome total beginners as well as the more advanced practitioners and students of other arts to our classes. Although it is very rare for us to do so, we reserve the right to refuse anyone access to our classes, if we feel they are unsuitable to our Dojo.

If you have any enquiries, please feel free to visit any of our classes, call or email us for further information.
